What happened

A Hatzolah volunteer posted publicly that he was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash in Toms River where neither driver was Orthodox. One patient refused his help and demanded "the real 911," saying he did not want "your kind" touching him.

Toms River 911 EMS sent two more volunteers. They were Orthodox, and he refused them too. Township officers assessed him and called paramedics. The paramedics who arrived were Hasidic. At the hospital, according to the account, the assigned nurse was Orthodox as well.

The volunteer's post ends as a reflection on hatred delaying a person's own medical care.

Why it is on the record

Refusing care is legal. Nobody was threatened, and the patient is not identified. We are not naming the volunteer either; the account is his, and it has not been independently confirmed. The date of the call was not given.

It is on the record as a climate marker: hostility in Toms River reaching the point where a man in a crash would rather wait than be treated by an Orthodox responder. It came four days after Shore News Network's synagogue crash posts in the same town (HR-0001).
